COMMON LANGUAGE
2025
Common Language, redefines how we create, share, and experience music by returning to the heart of house music and challenging traditional approaches to collaboration, music production, and listening practices. It aims to create unity by celebrating the values and diverse narratives of electronic music, harnessing its power to reintroduce a deep appreciation for the art form through active listening.
Common Language unfolds in two phases:
Collaborative EP Creation
In the first phase, I produced an EP built on the idea that genres act as bridges rather than barriers. I invited four unique individuals, each deeply immersed in the electronic music scene, yet they are not musicians themselves, to serve as storytellers for each track. This intentional choice expands the exploration of unconventional collaboration between a musician and a music enthusiast. Each collaborator received a tailored brief that involves a written, performed, curated, or spoken piece. Their perspectives and preferences then inspired me to compose a track in response to their work, resulting in an EP that delves into uncharted musical territories.
Guided Immersive Listening Session
In the second phase, the EP and its narratives come alive in a communal, immersive experience. The invited participants entered a club space transformed by dim red ceiling lights, light fog, and the scent of incense. Once the doors closed, a guided meditation invites the audience to become fully present, focusing on space and sound. This session shifted attention from passive consumption to active engagement, encouraging listeners to approach each note with openness and without judgment. As every sound unfolds, the shared experience revealed music’s unifying power and underscores the importance of mindful listening.
Through these multidisciplinary methods, Common Language reintroduces the values of unity and appreciation, envisioning a future where music reclaims its role as a space for community and dialogue.
